The app
A tour of the app
The parts of the Graphide window, the three windows you can choose between, and how to find any command.
The window
- The sidebar, down the left, lists your agents by what each needs from you, with New agent across its top. A setting turns it into a list of your projects and their worktrees instead.
- The middle shows the agent you chose, its conversation on top and the composer you write in underneath. A file or a terminal you open shows here too, in tabs.
- The right side shows one part at a time, chosen in the bar at its top: the graph map, the Architecture diagram, files, source control, a browser, changes to review, and more.
The menu bar holds File, Edit, View, Go, Graph, Agents, Review, Experimental and Help; F10 opens it. The status bar at the bottom has a Report bug button that sends us a report with the logs we need.
Find anything
| Keys | Opens |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+K | Search or ask: files, symbols, agents and commands. Start with ? to ask a question, answered with a map. |
| Ctrl+P | Find a file or a part of the map |
| Ctrl+Shift+P | Every command |
| F1 | Help, which has a guide to each part of the app |
The rest are in Keys and mouse.
Three windows
Graphide comes in three windows. They show the same projects, agents and map, and differ in layout and keys.
| Window | What it is |
|---|---|
| Normal | The default. An app: your projects and agents at the left, tabs in the middle, the map at the right, and keys that type. |
| Vim | Vim’s panes, modes and : commands, with the map beside your code. Everything is a few keys away. See The Vim window. |
| Standard layout | A layout with more buttons, where typing just types. |
You choose between Normal and Vim on the tutorial’s first step. To switch later, use Settings, Appearance, Editor mode, or the View menu’s Normal mode and Vim mode. Standard layout is in the command palette. No key switches windows, so you cannot change by accident.
A separate setting, How keys behave, lets one window use the other’s typing: the Normal window with Vim’s modes, for example.
The tutorial
The first time Graphide starts, a short tutorial walks you through the app on a bundled example project. It changes none of your code. It asks which window you want, which theme, and whether to sign in.
You can skip signing in: everything on your computer works without an account, and you can sign in later from Projects. Building and updating maps needs a sign-in, since Graphide does both on its servers.
Projects and worktrees
Add a project with the + beside Projects, or Add or open a project in the command palette, which can also clone one.
A worktree is another checkout of the same repository on a branch of its own, so several agents can work at once without touching each other’s files. The small + on a project’s row makes one: name the branch and choose what it starts from. A new agent can start in a new worktree of its own, too.
Where to go next
- The map: read your code as cards inside cards.
- Agents in the app: start, steer and answer agents.
- Review changes: see what changed, on the map.
- Settings: themes, controls and the settings file.
